Major Analytical Facilities

The laboratory has equipped with a large variety of the state-of-the-art analytical instruments which are capable of doing composition and structure analysis for all kinds of geological samples, in particular trace and rare earth element analysis, stable and radiogenic isotope analysis, fluid inclusion study, and high-pressure, high-temperature experimental work. These facilities are grouped into three Analysis and Research (AR) Units:

I. AR Unit for micro-analysis of minerals:

In this unit, we have a JXA-8800M Electron Microprobe, a Bede-D1 XRF, a Nano Scope IIIa scanning electron microscopy, and a Lambda 900 diffuse reflectance spectrometry.

II. AR Unit for element and isotope analysis:

In this unit, we have a HR-ICP-MS (Finnigan Element II), a JY38S ICP-OES, a TIMS (Finnigan Triton TI), a stable isotope mass spectrometry (Finnigan MAT-252), and a CF-IRMS (Finnigan Delta Plus XP) equipped with Gas Bench II, Flash EA, and TC/EA. These instruments are capable for high precision analysis of major, trace and rare earth elements, stable H-O-C-N-S isotopes, B and Cl isotopes, and radiogenic isotopes of Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, Pb, and Re-Os.

III. AR Unit for fluid inclusion study and high-pressure high-temperature experimental study:

In this unit, we have LINKAM THMS600 cooling and heating stages, a TS1500 heating stage, several polarizing microscopes, a Renishaw RM2000 Raman microscope, a hydrothermal diamond anvil cell (HDAC), and apparatus for high pressure high temperature experiments.
